Property Tax

  1. Property Tax Exemption100%+ rating
    Est. $4,000/yr · Full real estate tax exemption on primary residence — averages ~$3,000–$5,000/yr depending on county/school millage. Income test applies.

    Pennsylvania Disabled Veterans Real Estate Tax Exemption — full exemption from county, municipal, and school real estate taxes on the veteran's primary residence (and up to 5 acres). NOT automatic for any 100% rating. Eligibility requires ALL of: (1) 100% schedular service-connected disability, OR TDIU, OR service-connected blindness/paraplegia/loss of 2+ limbs; (2) wartime service (period of war per VA, or qualifying expeditionary medal); (3) financial need — presumed if gross annual income is at or below $114,637 (2026 threshold, indexed); above that you must show monthly expenses exceed monthly income. Surviving unremarried spouse may continue the exemption. Apply through the county Veterans Affairs Director with the State Veterans Commission making the final determination.

Education

  1. Educational Gratuity Program (EGP) + PEGP100% P&T
    Est. $1,000/yr · EGP $500/term × 8 terms = $4,000 lifetime; PEGP covers full tuition + fees + room/board (much higher value, narrower eligibility)

    Two PA programs. (1) Educational Gratuity Program (EGP): for the CHILDREN of honorably discharged wartime veterans who have a service-connected total and permanent disability, OR children of veterans who died in service during a period of war or armed conflict. Award: up to $500 per term for up to 8 terms ($4,000 lifetime, NOT per year). Child must be age 16-23, have lived in PA for 5 years prior to applying, attend a PA school, and demonstrate financial need. NOT for the disabled veteran themselves. (2) Postsecondary Educational Gratuity Program (PEGP): full tuition + fees + on-campus room and board waiver at PA public postsecondary institutions for the CHILDREN of PA National Guard members and other public-safety/military personnel killed in the line of duty after January 1, 1976 (or after 9/11/2001 for federal/state active military duty deaths).

Vehicle

  1. Free Vehicle Registration + DV Plate100% P&T
    Est. $50/yr · Eliminates ~$45/yr registration + title fees in perpetuity; one-time $11 plate fee remains

    Pennsylvania eliminated all vehicle registration and title fees for 100% Permanent and Total (P&T) service-connected disabled veterans starting in 2023 — this continues through 2026. The Disabled Veteran (DV / IW) license plate itself has a separate $11 plate fee (one-time). Eligibility requires a VA Summary of Benefits Letter showing 100% service-connected disability. Apply at any PennDOT driver license center or by mail using Form MV-145V. Processing 2-4 weeks.

Recreation

  1. Hunting/Fishing LicensesAll veterans
    Est. $75/yr · Free for 100% disabled; ~$2 reduced fee for partial ratings

    Two PA programs for veterans. (1) FREE Disabled Veteran Resident Hunting/Furtaker License (PA Game Commission) and FREE Resident Fishing License (PA Fish & Boat Commission) for veterans with 100% service-connected disability rating. (2) Reduced-fee hunting and fishing licenses (~$2 each) available for veterans with less than 100% disability. Both require PA residency. Apply via county treasurer or directly through PGC/PFBC with proof of disability.

  2. PA State Parks AccessAll veterans
    No PA-specific veteran benefit — parks are free for everyone

    PA state parks have no entry fee for any visitor — admission is universally free, this is NOT a veterans-specific benefit. There is no PA state-park vets pass equivalent to other states. Adjacent benefits: (1) the new (2026) DCNR Conservation Volunteer program awards free camping/cabin nights for volunteer hours (not veteran-specific); (2) seniors 62+ get camping discounts; (3) federal America the Beautiful Lifetime Pass for permanently disabled veterans (any rating) provides free entry to NATIONAL parks, not state. Listed here for completeness so users do not look for a PA-specific veteran perk that does not exist.
